Google Announces Alphabet Restructure

Google is restructuring its company, under the new name ‘Alphabet.’ The new holding company will have ownership of the whole of Google’s franchise, including Chrome, YouTube, and advertising channels.

Most of Google’s existing services, like its search engine, will be unaffected by Alphabet. This means if that you often use their web search tool, you won’t notice any changes immediately.

Other areas of the corporation, like its life sciences, research and investment departments, will be separated from the core business.

Google has said that the new changes will allow each business to be managed by a different boss. It will also be able to report on each business separately so that they can identify strengths and weaknesses of the company more easily.

In its recent announcement, Google said; “Alphabet is mostly a collection of companies. The largest of which, of course, is Google. This newer Google is a bit slimmed down, with the companies that are pretty far afield of our main Internet products contained in Alphabet instead. What do we mean by far afield? Good examples are our health efforts: Life Sciences (that works on the glucose-sensing contact lens), and Calico (focused on longevity).”

“Alphabet Inc. will replace Google Inc. as the publicly-traded entity and all shares of Google will automatically convert into the same number of shares of Alphabet, with all of the same rights. Google will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alphabet. Our two classes of shares will continue to trade on Nasdaq as GOOGL and GOOG.”

Despite Google’s efforts to utilise their corporation, they have already run into problems. The alphabet.com URL has already been claimed by German carmaker, BMW. Instead, Google has opted for https://abc.xyz/ for their new enterprise venture.
